Why do we need design?

I see design as a way of life. Design for me requires a divergent viewpoint for generating ideas, yet grounding them in the constraints faced by us. We often have very set notions about how a particular product can function. A product’s efficiency need not be a function of its price. Rather it depends upon our ability to think out of the box, to challenge set notions. Design thinking encourages us to tinker around the product, with specific goals in mind. Every new feature cannot be a value addition unless it addresses the core function of the product.
